In February 2002, parents Jake and Erin welcomed two daughters, naming them Kendra and Malia. Their joy came with an unexpected twist — the girls were born conjoined, a reality that left the young couple both overjoyed and deeply anxious about what lay ahead.

Until age 4, Kendra and Malia shared a single body. The girls had only two legs between them, with each controlling one side — yet they quickly adapted, learning to move and play together as a coordinated team. Their parents eventually made the difficult decision to separate them surgically, wanting each daughter to have the chance to grow into her own individual life.

In 2006, a team of 31 medical specialists carried out the highly complex separation surgery, a procedure that took over 24 hours and drew major media attention, turning the sisters into minor celebrities practically overnight.

Adjusting to life as two separate individuals came surprisingly fast. Within just three years, both girls were attending school and exploring creative hobbies — spending hours painting together in their room while singing along to their favorite songs.

Their resilience earned them admiration at school, where classmates went out of their way to support them however they could. Now both 20 years old, Kendra and Malia have the freedom to live apart but still choose to stay close, spending most of their time together. Both have since earned their driver’s licenses and have become confident, capable drivers.

Today, the sisters run their own YouTube channel and social media pages, sharing glimpses of their everyday lives with tens of thousands of followers who continue to root for them. 💛
